Extremely video-gamey DJ controller for $92

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Ion Audio has released a new video gamey DJ controller for the incredible price point of $92 (at Amazon). Sporting an (almost) all plastic construction, it’s the real thing– being a fully capable MIDI controller that is compatible with Virtual DJ, Traktor, Mixxx, etc.

Given that the majority of DJ’s I see today make full use of their laptops, this is probably an awesome way to get started on mixing. Has everything you need to learn the essentials!

Zero Gravity shelf for your turntable: When is too much perfectionism… well too much?

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

This kind of goes into the WTF category. Check this: A shelf for your turntable suspended on freakin’ magnets so that vibrations don’t filter through and mess up your perfect audio from your vinyls. At a low price of $500.

Honestly I haven’t seen a lot of old skool technics lately at the clubs in Hollywood, and given that the trend is towards live mashing up and using the latest equipment and laptops, I don’t see how this is practically relevant today. I mean, if the guy has $500 to spend, then he probably wouldn’t be bringing this expensive decide to the house party in the boonies with a plastic table that is also used for beer pong.

Let’s call it what it is– a bait/trap/lure for OCD audiophiles to show off.

Audio-Technica Releases yet another LP to USB turntabl

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Audio-Technica introduced yet another LP to Digital USB system today. It’s not exactly a new concept, with even Thinkgeek.com having offered one for years. Not sure who would need it these days, as all the songs that needed to be converted were converted a long time ago.
